The biphase-mark encoding scheme chosen for AES3 is not as efficient as the run-length-limited (RLL) schemes used in other communications protocols, such as MADI. However, biphase-mark encoding contains information about the positions of single-state errors in the data stream. This paper presents two strategies for exploring this information, allowing correction of single-state errors.
