A Musican-Like VQ Approach Yields Improved Low Bit-Rate Coding of Audio Signals
A vector quantization approach is introduced in a Musicam (ISO/MPEG 1 Layer II) coding scheme in order to improve its performance and preserve the bandwidth of the audio signal at low bit rates (below 64 kbit/s). In this way, a gain equivalent to 20 kbit/s is achieved while the relatively high similarity to the original scheme makes the adaptation easy to implement.
