Design Issues for Digital Audio Networks

Document Thumbnail

This paper discusses issues in the design of packet-switched digital audio networks, including bandwidth, delays, buffering, resource reservation, synchronization, integration with DSP, and support for AES/EBU. Emphasis is placed on how applications involving playback from secondary storage and applications involving real-time capture make different demands on the network. Examples are drawn from Ethernet, the FDDI-based networks, MediaNet and MADI, MediaLink, and ATM.
