Design of Complex Directional Loudspeaker Clusters

Document Thumbnail

Any sound system designer who has tried to determine the precise coverage pattern of a complex array of directional loudspeaker horn units, knows that such coverage patterns can surprise even the most experienced designer with startling irregularities. This is especially true when the space being served by the loudspeaker system is complex, with sloped seating areas and several balconies. The design of a central system usually involves coverage of such spaces with several directional horn units, each of which must be properly oriented both in horizontal and vertical angular displacement. The use of descriptive geometry techniques alone in the determination of directional loudspeaker coverage patterns is usually time consuming and can easily be innacurate.
