Acoustic Waveguide Theory

Document Thumbnail

In 1919, A. G. Webster published a paper on the theory of horns. Webster's horn equation is based on a plane-wave assumption that is incorrect and this assumption severely limits the applicability of this theory to modern directivity-controlling devices. The historical development of horn theory is described, and a new acoustic waveguide theory is introduced. The new theory is free of the plane-wave assumption and yields designs which perform significantly better than present devices.
