A new application of boundary technology makes possible a stereo microphone with highly accurate spatial localization. The Stereo Ambient Sampling Syßtem also captures the acoustic "atmosphere" with great detail, free from the usual phase-error-induced comb filtration. Optimum results follow careful attention to microphone placement and the recording environment. The authors present practical techniques based on several years of digital recording with the system to achieve best results for projects ranging from soundtracks and sound effects to acoustic ensembles and symphonic music.
