Harmonic and Intermodulation Performance of Two-Quadrant Bipolar-Transistor Gain Cells

Document Thumbnail

An empirical formula is developed for the input-current-output-current characteristic of the two-quadrant bipolar-transistor current-steering gain cell proposed by Hawksford and Mills [J. Audio Soc., vol. 37, pp. 465-475 (1989 June)]. Using this formula, closed-form analytical expressions, in terms of the ordinary Bessel functions, are obtained for the output-current components resulting from a multisinusoidal input current. Using these expressions, the effect of the various parameters of the gain cell on its harmonic and intermodulation performance can be studied.
