Considerations for Naturalness in Portable Sound Reinforcement Systems

Document Thumbnail

Battery powered solid state amplification has made possible integrated portable sound reinforcement systems which are installed and controlled by the talker. Because such systems are, by nature, -central loudspeaker systems,- naturalness-or the listener's illusion of no reinforcement-is enhanced. Naturalness can be further enhanced by utilizing the difference between the near and far field pressure characteristic of the human voice regarded as a doublet. Since the listener is conditioned to expect this difference, a system designed to accommodate this expectation will sound natural.
