The bandpass filters of a vocoder synthesizer were replaced with oscillators with provisions for phase and amplitude modulation. The generators operate pitch-synchronously-each pitch pulse initiates an oscillation cycle analogous to the impulse response of a simple resonator. This -vocal response synthesizer- is much simpler than a channel vocoder using spectral flattening while having comparable intelligibility and quality.
