A Linear-Phase Digital Equalizer with Cubic-Spline Frequency Response

Document Thumbnail

Designing a linear-phase digital equalizer involves a tradeoff between the smoothness of the frequency response and the independence of the equalizer bands. This is illustrated by using several shapes of bandpass amplitude functions. Cubic B-splines exhibit desirable characteristics as bandpass amplitude functions, namely, smooth frequency response and reduced impulse-response ringing. B-splines can be combined to improve the inter-band independence. An implementation of this type of equalizer is then discussed.
