A Digital Mixing System for Theaters

This paper describes an all digital mixing system installed in the summer of 1990 in the Vienna Staatsoper in Austria. The previous mixing system often demanded three operators to meet the extensive audio requirements. The new system has a capacity of for 80 active inputs and 68 active outputs that interface with a 256 x 256 channel digital I/O patch system. Besides considerable space savings, the mixing sytem relieves operators from tedious set-up and in-performance technical operations thus allowing concentration on the critical mixing adjustments for the performance.
