Designing Symmetric Response Bandpass Loudspeakers
New equations are derived for fourth- and sixth-order bandpass loudspeaker response including port and enclosure losses. Expressions are given for SPL, cone displacement, vent velocity, and efficiency. Tuning conditions are found which guarantee symmetric response, allowing design via analogy with prototype low-pass response functions. Simple expressions are derived relating driver and enclosure parameters to low-pass filter transfer function coefficients and system bandwidth. Sensitivity to variation in enclosure and port losses is examined. Two examples are compared to experimental results illustrate the value of the design process.
