This article describes the advantages of binaural recordings as compared to intensity-stereophonic recordings. A signal interface for the reproduction of binaural recordings over loudspeakers is being specified. It is also pointed out that the creative possibilities of multimicrophone techniques can also be used in connection with binaural technology, yet enriched by the new dimension of a perfect spatial auditory perspective when listening to the recordings by headphone. In addition, some examples for applications of binaural technology in sound-field analysis are given.
