A Realistic Approach to Complete Integration in Audio Post

Document Thumbnail

Modern audio post-production requires a wide variety of central and peripheral equipment, and this usually means an uncomfortable number of remote controls, computer screens, keyboards, track balls, etc. for an operator to deal with. The result is often extra hours spent to achieve the final result, or a compromise in the finished product. Most of this equipment can be externally controlled in some fashion; this paper describes a workstation approach which is based on software with a high degree of modularity. Each device is treated as an object which can be accessed individually or linked with other objects to perform an edit or other operation. A familiar graphic shell allows each operator to customize the presentation to his own needs and preferences. The workstation shares resources with other workstations using standard network protocols, chosen according to the number of nodes and required bandwidth in each installation.
