The digital audio workstation provides rapid and sophisticated control of audio processing parameters and editing. In two previous papers various aspects of the human interface and signal processing features in SoundStation have been described [1,2] The large range of these features introduces new demands in terms of the interconnection of control data and audio within the studio. In particular the ability to synchronize transfers of audio and the control of different devices in the studio is important. : What is Synchronization? Synchronization in the context of this paper means a correspondence between the timebases and control of different machines within the studio. In its simplest form, when applied to the Workstation, it refers to the input or output of sound being co-timed with input or output from other machines.
