Control rooms for music monitoring sometimes suffer from irregularities in reproduction of deep tones under 100 Hz. These originate from Eigentons or room modes with their standing waves and landscape of modes. Measurements in control rooms have been made and have shown that these modes can be influenced by the shape of the room, reflectors in corners or on the wall or tuned resonators with high absorption. It is of advantage to use variable absorbers with a set resonance frequency which can be mounted in an optimal position. Measurements and provisions will be discussed.
