The Use of 35-mm Sprocket-Type Magnetic Film in Recording Phonograph Masters

This paper discusses the use of perforated 35-mm magnetic film as the recording medium in preparing phonograph masters; the Westrex 35-mm system is described. Performance characteristics are given. A comparison of 35-mm magnetic film versus 1/4-in. magnetic tape relative to flutter, signal-to-noise ratio, print-through, modulation noise, and intermodulation distortion is given.
