A complex analytic function is to its real port as a solid object is to its shadow. The analytic impulse - (t) is a complex "function" whose real port is the familiar Dirac symbol. This impulse finds application in 'energy-time' calculations, and cepstral processing. The nature of this impulse will be examined in the continuous, z-transform, and DFT domains. A simple window will also be discussed which leads to a smoother impulse.
