A New Direction in Electro-Acoustic Reverberation Control

Document Thumbnail

A new broad-band multi-port acoustic control system is presented that addresses both the direct and the reverberant field in a controlled space-variant way. The design is fully deterministic and optimizes the impulse response in a number of receiver locations. The direct transfer and two reverberant transfer functions are separately optimized over the entire acoustic frequency range. Level, decay and structure in time and space are under user control. The system is effective up to 16kHz. During the presentation measurements will be shown of halls where an 18-port version of the new system has been recently installed. Both measurements and subjective evaluation indicate that the new system may have introduced a revolutionary improvement in electro-acoustic sound field control.
