The authors' work is aimed at a tape transport mechanism of S-DAT suitable for a portable model. As a result, the authors found that the desired mechanical response can be obtained by using two flywheels, a main and a sub, with small inertia and reproduced sound quality can be put to practical use with as much as 2.5-G acceleration, resulting in both digital signal processing and tape guiding being optimized.
