Modular Digital Multitrack Recorder

Document Thumbnail

A digital audio multitrack disk recorder based on computer technology has been developed by the author and his colleagues. This machine is composed of a parallel array of single board 16-bit audio computers that may be used in stereo or mono modes. Although the prototype is 16 channels wide, the fundamental design is "open-ended" so that a very large number, perhaps as many as 256, audio tracks may be implemented by adding modules at any time. The design, its specifications, component parts, and operation are discussed.
