A technique necessary for a new perdictor of speech intelligibility in unbuilt rooms has been investigated. The squared impulse responses of thirty source-to-listener transmission paths (measured in five auditoria) were modified by forcing their late decays to be perfectly exponential. The original and modified data were input to an intelligibility prediction algorithm, and the correlation between the respective outputs used to determine the optimum criteria for accurate prediction. A case study of predicted scores using the method and the optimum criteria is presented, showing excellent correlation with predicted scores derived from the original data.
