The CD-I Authoring System
This paper relates to the authoring system newly developed by Matsushita for production CD-I discs. Features of the system, configuration of hardware and software, and the data processing method are described in this paper. In order to realize this authoring system, original multimedia data base management techniques and audio video synchronization editing methods have been developed. For the construction of system hardware, real time ADPCM audio encoder/decoder, -YUV video encoder/decoder, and simulator have been designed and constructed. System software, utility items have been developed, including the multimedia handling software making full use of the UNIX operating system and structure-conversion software used for converting information into the CD-I file structure, etc. These programs have been written in the C language. Also, this system can execute the pre-mastering of High Sierra format CD-ROM.
