Acoustic Waveguide Theory

Document Thumbnail

In 1919, A. G. Webster published a paper on the theory of horns. Webster's horn equation is based on planewave assumption that is incorrect. This assumption severely limits the applicability of this theory to modern directivity controlling devices. In this paper, the historical development of horn theory will be described, and a new acoustic waveguide theory will be introduced. The new theory is free of the plane-wave assumption and has yielded significantly better performance than present devices.
