Application of the Wavelet Transform to the Analysis, Transformation and Synthesis of Musical Sounds

Document Thumbnail

The analysis and resynthesis of musical sounds has been addressed by many authors, usually with Fourier Transform related techniques. These techniques involve a representation of signals in terms of contributions equally spaced on the linear frequency axis. The constant Q filters are closer to the hearing models. A method that would combine a decomposition in elementary contributions and hearing like properties would be very attractive. The Wavelet Transform is such a method. The principles of the method are reminded, an implementation is reviewed, some musical examples are given.
