Operator Adjustable Equalizers: An Overview

Presented is an overview of operator adjustable equalizers in the professional audio workplace. Paper length restricts discussion to analog designs; however, a review of microprocessor controlled equalizers appears elsewhere. Extensive definition of common terminology appears with explanatory diagrams. Categories and types of variable equalizers shows the diversification within the professional audio industry. Charts appear clarifying the many branches of the equalizer tree. Circuit diagrams highlight the various filter topologies, with discussion and uses for each. Manufacturers appear cataloged as to types of equalizers offered for sale. A historical summary surveys over fifty years of professional audio equalizer use.
