Tone-Arm Outrigger Damping Devices
One of the problems in phonograph systems is the low-frequency resonance governed by the tone-arm effective mass and the stylus compliance. The procedure normally suggested to control this resonance is to reduce the system effective mass and to add pivot damping. Recently, adding an outrigger damping device near the stylus has been proposed as an alternastive to pivot damping. The effects of an outrigger having both an effective means of controlling the low-frequency resonance. A set of equations for the design of an optimal outrigger is also derived, which allows the independent adjustment of the system resonance frequency and quality factor.
