Digital Control of Loudspeaker Array Directivity

Document Thumbnail

In an earlier paper a mathematical model was described which allows computer simulation of the directivity characteristic of sound reinforcement loudspeaker arrays constructed using "real" drivers, that is, drivers possessing defined amplitude, group delay, and horizontal/vertical polar directivity characteristics. In the present paper a loudspeaker array implementation is presented which allows digital control of the parameters suggested by the mathematical model. Simulation study results illustrate the effects of the various control parameters to which this implementation allows access. Plans for a prototype digitally controlled loudspeaker array are outlined.
