Three-Level Tone Test Signal for Setting Audio Levels

Document Thumbnail

A test signal has been proposed to the CCIR, in which a tone at a frequency near 1 kHz is sent sequentially at three levels, namely, measurement level (-12 dBmOs), alignment level (0 dBmOs), and permitted maximum level (+9 dBmOs). Proposed initially for setting levels on international sound program circuits, it is useful over a wider range of applications. Uses and implications of the signal are discussed.
