The Design of Low Noise Transistor Audio Amplifiers
This paper describes the effect of various amplifier parameters on noise figure, and points out the proper use of any freedom in the selection of these parameters so as to minimize amplifier noise figure. The discussion, applicable to either wide-band or narrow-band amplifiers, includes the effect of operating point, biasing circuitry, optimum source resistance, and the selection of the transistor itself. The use of feedback to obtain desired input impedance and gain characteristics without degrading noise figure is described.
