Compatible Stereophonic Broadcasting Systems for Spatial Reproduction

For almost 20 years a world-wide accepted system for stereophonic broadcasting has been used on a very large scale. Any extension to the system for better reproduction of the original sound must be made only at the receiver end, otherwise the transmission system will have to be changed. The latter alternative requires corresponding adaptation of the reproducing system but compatibility has to be regarded as imperative. A new broadcasting system is described offering inherent compatibility and permitting 3-channel (cubophonic) transmission.
