Using Distortion Products to Effect Automatic Frequency Control in FM Tuners

Document Thumbnail

Tuning systems developed for FM tuners are designed to minimize distortion. Recent as well as traditional approaches to this problem have concentrated on the correction of the local oscillator frequency using independent frequency references or a correction voltage developed from an FM demodulator. A frequency correction system based on the direct analysis of distortion products produced in the intermediate-frequency bandpass filter, and the implementation of a system that corrects tuning to effect a null in distortion products are described.
