New Factors in Power Amplifier Design

Document Thumbnail

Power amplifier design is influenced more by available measurement techniques than by considerations of the actual ability of the amplifier to handle the complex combination of signals and loads which it faces when playing music into a loudspeaker. New measurement techniques are offered to extend the repertoire to include more complex signals and loads, thus bringing design into better alignment with reality. These areas include "matching" a power amplifier to its load, dynamic headroom, dynamic nonlinear load impedance, and asymmetrical waveform behavior.
