Practical Periphony: The Reproduction of Full-Sphere Sound

Document Thumbnail

Periphony is the recording and reproduction of a full sphere of sound directions covering the whole of 3 dimensional acoustical space. Previous theoretical and practical papers on this subject by the author described reproduction by regular layouts of loudspeakers which were not practically adapted to domestic use. The development of the soundfield microphone has made periphonically encoded recordings generally available in the recording situation.
