Many of today's innovations are by no means new. Often they stem directly from ideas proposed many decades ago. A search through the patient literature will often set the historical record straight. Specific examples are cited, with identifying patent numbers. The author argues that although it is often equitable for financial reward to go to whoever develops a hitherto impracticable idea to a point viable for commercial exploitation, it is also proper at least to remember the name of the original pioneer. The author also argues that the audio industry has a poor track record for preserving archive material and that this probably contributes to modern disinterest in the work of audio pioneers.
