Low-Frequency Water-Borne Sound Generators

The utility of sound as an oceanic test probe depends upon the simplicity and precision with which a particular acoustic signal can be generated. This paper will describe some of the sound generators in use, their principles of operation and relative advantages in meeting the design requirements. Efficiency, power output, and mechanical Q will be discussed, and a calibration procedure will be given.
