Record Changers, Turntables, and Tone Arms-A Brief Technical History

Some of the highlights in the development of record changers and turntables since the early 1920s are recounted. Electric motors, drives, and change mechanisms are discussed in some detail along with important features of tone arms. The present state of the art is summarized, and the paper concludes with a prediction of future development.
