Although magnetic recorders with built-in erase capability have been used extensively in audio systems, loop and reel-to-reel recorders of the instrumentation type employing individual-track erasure have relied on FM carriers as the erase vehicle-with acceptance of attendant bandwidth limitations that characterize such systems. For a particular application a medium-bandwidth direct-record tape loop system with individual-track high-frequency erase provisions was developed. In this paper its design and performance are described.
