A useful test probe must produce accurate quantitative results. Hence hydrophones must be calibrated on an absolute scale for all environmental conditions, especially the most difficult environment, the deep ocean. This paper will describe several calibration methods, their relative advantages and limitation, and the equipment required for the calibration. A typical calibration calculation will be presented.
