Maintenance Procedures for Ferrite Heads

Despite manufacturers' claims to the contrary, ferrite heads do manifest unique problems that require routine maintenance procedures. Microscope photographs and performance data for typical ferrite heads on mastering recorders are presented with recommendations for specific periodic tests to detect gap erosion.
