Improvements of the PLL Demodulator for CD-4 Carrier Disc

Document Thumbnail

A PLL demodulation is commonly applied to retrieve FM carriers from the CD-4 carrier disc on which the carriers are superimposed on the audio base-band signals. In the demodulation, distortion is often introduced because of nonlinearity in the recording and playback chain of the CD-4 system. This paper describes a method for measuring the distortion using a band noise, by which the demodulator distortion can be quantitatively determined, and an approach to its reduction is also discussed.
