An Introduction to Circular Statistics and its Application to Sound Localization Experiments

The problems inherent in handling circular variables, and the statistical analyses required, are discussed. Measures of mean, variance, skewness and kurtosis are presented and compared to the linear case. Significance tests for several statistical measures are described. A previously unavailable measure of correlation between circular variables and several routines for many of correlation measures are presented. The use of computer routines for many of these calculations is detailed and references to several programs are given.
