The computer coded search (CCS) system enables random access to the compact cassette. Up until now, the most important search system has been a counter coupled with the take up reel. The disadvantage of these counters is the lack of standardization from one type of recorder to another, as well as a lack of precise adherence to the system. On the other hand, the CCS system is coupled with well-defined positions on the tape due to specific code signals recorded on the tape before each item to be recognized.
