Tuning systems developed for FM tuners are designed to minimize distortion. Recent, as well as traditional approaches to this problem, have concentrated on correction of local oscillator frequency using independent frequency references or a correction voltage developed from an FM demodulator. This paper describes a frequency correction system based on direct analysis of distortion products produced in the intermediate-frequency bandpass filter, and the implementation of a system that corrects tuning to effect a null in distortion products.
