A Long-Life Sapphire Stylus for Discrete Quadraphonic Discs

Microhardness and wear resistance of surface-hardened synthetic sapphire crystals have been measured and compared with conventional sapphire crystals. To evaluate the utility of processed sapphire crystals for playback styli for discrete four-channel disc systems, wear tests have been conducted in relation to the quality of the reproduced sound.
