Standing waves of sound are a major factor in home high-fidelity reproduction. While their effects can be neutralized to some extent by electronic equalization, the results may be less than adequate at the lowest audio frequencies. A study was made of standing waves in a rectangular room and a method of equalizing low frequencies by optimizing loudspeaker placement was developed.
