Audio Engineering Improvements for Clavichords

Document Thumbnail

Two experimental clavichords have been fabricated to study the problem of enhancing the acoustic loudness while at the same time preserving the fine timbre quality of this old predecessor of the modern piano. An electromagnetic string pickup exciting a resonant filter provides an electronic replica of the acoustic soundbox for use with a small amplifier system. A summary of recent work is presented.
