A review of current digital technology shows that it can offer substantial improvement over conventional analog techniques in certain specific cases. However, the advantages are not without difficulties. In this communication, we discuss a real-time digital computer which was specifically designed to minimize these difficulties by allowing a simulation before the prototyping phase. The computer has an architecture specific to audio. Sample programs are explained to show how a system would be simulated.
