Development of a Voice Projection System for Masked Firefighters

Document Thumbnail

Fire fighters often wear protective breathing devices utilizing face masks. Voice communication through these masks is very difficult, especially in noisy locations. A comprehensive study of the electroacoustic and mechanical requirements for a high-quality fire fighter's speech projection system has been made. A system tailored to a new U.S. Navy breathing apparatus has been developed, giving highly intelligible voice communications to the user.
