The -room constant- R is used in noise control and sound system design to predict reverberant field sound pressure and the ratio of direct-to-reverberant sound. In some situations the standard formula for R introduces substantial error. An understanding of the derivation of R is emphasized and a simple method is presented for calculating a more accurate room constant R'.
